Ken,
I would be glad to discuss with the DNN developer any knowledge I have concerning this issue. I supplied the code changes and my thoughts on each problem. I would be glad to help in any way with the solution. Feel free to contact me via Twitter @xfernal for my phone #.

I have not looked at 5.6.1 beta because I have been busy, but I would make damn sure GetDomainName method is dropping the trailing slash "/" on the return before 5.6.1 is released at the very least... IMO. It is causing chaos on a lot of DNN sites with all of the portal alias entries.

Dec 15 It appears that all the issues in this thread have been resolved in 5.6.1. Hopefully that will be released soon.

Jan 3  It is doubtful that this will be fixed for 5.6.1 as we are in the final week before release.

Jan 4? Create new Gemini bug

Not so obvious is the solution or the problem. Should this not be resolved by 5.6.1?

The "problem" as you put it is larger than the reports in this thread. We have multiple symptoms reported that we have to replicate then dev the solution and then test.
We have tested a fix for most, but not all, of the symptoms caused by the Auto Portal Aliasing feature for 5.6.1.
II'm not going to make promises I am not certain can be kept by CORP.
As of this evening the 14447 bug is NOT fixed.. it was NEVER in the 5.6.1 roadmap and the priority was NOT high enough to make it into the release in the final 10 days.
After reading this thread I raised the Priority to High and also sent an email to Engineering regarding the Auto Portal Alias fixes and specifically this thread.
At this point, unless we blow the 5.6.1 release by 8 - 10 days the code in 14447 will be in a future, likely 5.6.2, release.

Just to be clear.. the bug was opened AFTER code complete and 2 days before code freeze.
It is Christmas and DNN was closed Dec 24, 27, 28 and Jan 3 for statutory holidays this year.

These are not excuses. i am simply stating facts here.

Until version 5.6.1 comes out I had to create a scheduled job that runs every minute that executes one sql statement:
delete [PortalAlias]
WHERE HTTPAlias <> 'mygoodallias.com'
