it certainly looks like it could as that url would not be found when searching for a page name (such as login.aspx) whereas the ctl=login part uses different logic and internally redirects to the login page. I dont host with godaddy so cant really offer any other suggestions.

GoDaddy- with whom I am having host 3 sites requires the www.mydomain.com/dotnetnuke they say for a security issue when you have goDaddy do the installation.  I recommend doing that the first time out, however there are  workarounds for that to get your dnn installation out of the dotnetnuke folder and into the root folder (which I have yet to do).

My current issue is that firefox says  "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." even using the mysite.com/dotnetnuke/default.aspx?ctl=login  -  I get the error.  I did move the getting started page- but i thought the login control was separate.  So i need some help here- cause i cannot do anything until this is fixed.

Thanks for anyone's help in advance.

I came across a similar problem. I used to use login control by default available through "Login" button - I didn't specified any particular page for signing in. Everything worked as expected. Later I created such site, marked it in settings as a Login site,  and soon deleted it. I thought I will fallback to login control as it was since installation - but I didn't. Right now I have 404 error page under "Login" button. The only way I can access the login control is through http://name.com/default.aspx?ctl=login. How can I return to default login page?

The link I got right now under login button is "http://name.pl/Login?returnurl=%2f". This is what I got from log:

TabId:129

PortalAlias:forum.malopolska.pl

OriginalUrl:/Login?returnurl=%2f

please check that your server is fully patched, particularly that it has http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980368 applied (needed for extensionless urls)
