But wait - going to http://localhost/dnn7.com means that dnn.com should be an Application configured, in IIS Manager, below the default web site.

If you browse to it like that then you do not need any hosts file entries.

You said that "...IIS when I click "Browse dnn7.com on *:80" I expect that to be in the RHS panel of IIS Manager. And above it I would expect Browse *:80

Best wishes,

Hi guys,

I stumbled across the DNN 7.0 Installation videos by Chris Hammond and decided to follow it verbatim.

I named everything as he did and put all folders and files where he did.

Lo and behold it still didn't work.

However, during the process I had the dnndev.me folder open and noticed this file that was created:

DotNetNuke.log4net.config

I then recalled something I read about this that might be the issue. Can't remember specifically, but...

I deleted ALL files/folders from the dnndev.me folder and re-copied all the original files/folders from the original installation zip file.

IT WORKED! Yeeee Haaaaw

I didn't necessarily put this info here for you as you probably are already aware of this but I put it here for the pour soul who like me was about to remove all the hair from his or her head and happens to stumble upon this thread. Might be of some help.

I did want to thank you guys for your help and now that I have a working copy of DNN 7 I might be able to reverse engineer the other installation and figure out the problem.

Have fun!
