I have the websites in another directory different than the inetpub\wwwroot, is there a configuration change needed in order to make this work in that setup scenario?

The websites can be in any folder you like so long as the Application Pool's account has access to the folder. It clearly does as you can operate the site locally.

I'm pretty sure it will be the portal alias table. If it's not secret; post what you have there, plus the bindings, and the url(s) you are attempting to access the site with.

portal alias table has mytest.domain.edu alias id 1 portal id 0, is primary set to true

binding in IIS for website mytest.domain.edu set to 10.x.x.x address which is bound to the network network adapter on the server

attempting to access with url http://mytest.domain.edu

ive been tinkering with it all day and its absolutely maddening that it can be accessed when not bound to a specific ip address and just any open in IIS.  I did notice one item that raised my eyebrow.  I added a hello.html document into the dnn website directory and tried to display that. i got a 404 error and the default path was looking at the system inetpub/wwwroot instead of the website install directory.

Also to note that previously built servers are not exhibiting this condition.  Any new build exhibits it once the site is moved from the all ip range to the ip address that it needs to respond on.

Can you check your binding. My web server sounds very similar to yours. The binding for my personal site as read out of the dialog box is:

- http
- All Unassigned (If you have an IP address in here it means ONLY traffic FROM that address)
- Port 80
- host name www.dynamisys.co.uk

Best wishes,
