If you just want to install a running website based on DNN, nvQuickSite (http://nvquicksite.com) should be the easiest option.

Well, I'll be darned.  That worked.  Thank you, Sebastian.  Now I need to go compare the db properties and settings.  I had it use the copy of DNN 8.0.3 I have here, gave it the same information I had been giving it all along, just as I have been for years, and it installed and works.  Only thing I didn't do was actually create the database.  That has to be where the difference lies.  Thank you so much!

As an aside. Christoc's procedure uses DNNDEV.ME.

It's certainly not a requirement of the templates. It's just his process to get up and running.

Thanks.  I know that that is the domain inside which those templates are designed to be used to develop new modules.  Once the modules are created, they can be installed under any domain, at least that is my understanding.   Let me know if I am off base, please!  And thanks again to all who have helped me.
