I will.  I thought I had the latest version.

I really appreciate your replies. It's frustrating when there's no response here.  I'm also going to try something I found on another thread about the upload/install bug in v4.x

Regardless of which 4.x version I try to upgrade to, the installation runs fine until it errors out with a "NO .DNN FILE FOUND" error.

I thought I had the problem licked by loading the 4.3.4 upgrade zip or 4.3.4 install zip into the Install/modules folder and using the remote install path:

http://www.mydomain.com/install/install.aspx?mode=InstallResources

The installer did its thing with either file and came back "successful" repeatedly,  but the site was not upgraded to 4.3.4.  It's still v4.0.2.

Version 4.0.2 is performing poorly, with lots of "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" errors on all pages.  I had version 3.x set up on another site and it worked fine.  V4.0.2 was a clean install on a new site. and has displayed these errors from the beginning.  I'm very dissappointed that I can't get this straightened out.

Why don't you try the upgrade to 4.3.4?

I have, numerous times.  The install fails to find some unspecified .dnn file each time.  I've even carefully swapped out some of the install files from the 4.3.4 install folder, with the same results.

The same thing happens with every upgrade between my original 4.0.2 version and 4.3.4.  I can't even get version 4.0.2 to re-install!  It comes up with the same error

It may be my imagination, but the site seems to be a little more stable with the tinkering I've done. What I'm thinking is that the original installation (which I didnt' do) either left somethign out, or put a file int the wrong folder.  If I coudl jsut deduce what the intall is looking for, I might be able to fix it.

It seems to me that your trying to use the module upgrade path to upgrade your dotnetnuke version. You have to unzip the dotnetnuke installation file and copy the directory/files over top of the old installation and then browse for upgrade. It's all detailed in the upgrade chapter in the DotNetNuke Installation Guide.pdf in the Docs download.

Thanks for your reply, Mike.

Yes, you basically describe what I'm trying.  I've read and re-read the upgrade instructions, and it does say to unzip the install file over a version of 3.x in order to upgrade that, but except for changing the web.config file, all it says about upgrading 4.x to a higher version is "you should now be able to browse to the site and trigger the Upgrade process... I assume that means by uploading it as you do a regular module.

I have been looking at the directory structure to see if there is a folder missing or out of place, but so far no luck.  I will try replacing the old folders with the unzipped ones, too, but the upgrade process doesn't seem to indicate that as a necessity for 4.x to 4.+s.
