Caution - many users (including myself) have reported in this forum (see issues in earlier posts) encountering fatal exceptions when attempting to install 4.3.3.  I recommend that users consider waiting until these issues are addressed before attempting an install or upgrade to 4.3.3.

I can. I'm trying to install 4.3.3 to a webserver edition (database on an other machine) and I'm getting an error saying that I should set read, write ... to my virtual root. I have ended upp with setting all possible right to full control (not what i want ) and still gets this error message. Any ideas anyone?

A long day of testing. My configuration is windows XP and windows server 2003 Web edition (for 4.0.3 and 4.3.3 install, im not using the starter kit on the web edition server) . I'm using a SQL server Express on a remote machine.

I have installed version 4.0.3 (install) and it works

I have installed version 4.3.3 (install) and i get some problems with rights. All i get is an error message stating that i should set rights to Network service for the virtual root of my site. The Networkservice (and also iuser, admin group, iislaunch process, aspnet process) has full right to the root (and childs).

I have installed the 4.3.3 starter kit and when i create a new site with location file system it all works fine. The installation process starts an it creates the database.

I have installed the 4.3.3 starter kit and when i create a new site with location HTTP i get the same error as with the 4.3.3 install version.

I need some sleep and hopefully some one has a good advice to me in the morning.

/Joakim

Thought I’d finish this one off

After a few nights god sleep and some exercise (running) I managed to solve my installation. Removed all previous installations and started from scratch. I followed the installation guide and with a few modifications (see below) I got it running. I’m happy to say there are no errors in this version

As I’m installing on a Windows Server 2003 Web edition there are a few things to remember that aren’t in the installation guide.

* IIS is not installed by default on a WEB EDITION (strange, but I was aware of this)

* You have to enable ASP.Net 2.x as a Web service extension (thanks shmanda for that tip). This is done in the IIS Manager under Web service extensions.

* If you get problems with permissions a tip is to use Auditing. This can be done in Security settings for your virtual root folder. Choose the Advanced button and then the Auditing tab. I added auditing fail for everyone.

* Windows Firewall was enabled on my installation by default. That took some time to find out. I added port 80 as an exception.

As to the permission errors that hit me I can state that I’ve got it right the first time but the security settings did not apply correctly. Perhaps if I had rebooted my computer I had got it to work?? Just guessing.

Now I’m up and running
