Yes. The 3.2.2 and the 3.3.4 version is running fine with a V-Server.
See my posts in this thread.
Next week I will rent a root server a bigger portal. I will install 4.3.4 on it.

At the end of the month I can tell you more.

Yes I unziped the 3.3.4 and did the edits and uploaded to a new folder also deleted the database at  1and 1 and created a new one. The defauld admin, admin and host, host passwords do not work so I can't do anything.

1. I got an answer from 1&1: They promised to work on the problem with DNN 4.X

2. Did You clear the database before installing 3.3.4? Did You copy machine-code from old web.config (4.X) to the new web.config (3.X)? If I understood well, then You need that machine-code to be able to login with old data in the database.

3. Does anybody know if the structure of the databases is identical from version 3.x to 4.x?

I have read in the install-docs of DNN 3.2 that You have to add 'requirepermission="false"' to all sections in web.config - configsections - sectiongroup because it is running on a system with .NET 2.0 and Medium Trust as it is with 1and1.  Please see install-docs,page 18 of DNN 3.3.4 on this server.

I have a 1&1 Business Pro Windows Edition and just installed the 4.3.4 DNN Version (it is just a trial because I just heard about DNN a few days ago).

I strictly followed the two articles in the faq concerning the DNN installation of the 3.x and 4.x versions:

  • change the web.config file (with the MSSQL settings)
  • use the "webfiles" application from the configuration menu and give full rights to both users "IUSR_[number]" and "Network Service" in the installation folder.
  • unfortunately, according to the faq, that only works with the root folder of the account - if you want to use a subfolder you have to contact the support.

And it seems to work. So far, I haven't seen any restrictions or errors. I created a few pages and successfully uploaded some additional skins and modules.

I just went to 1and 1 website and I do not see any reference to 4.3.4. Everything I see in the FAQs is 3.x. Would you be so kind as to post the link to the 4.x FAQ on 1and 1.

Thanks,
Steve
