Good Afternoon Everyone,

I have DNN 4.0.3 installed on a W2K3 server and it seems to be running ok, as long as I'm inside my home network, but the DNN site is not accessible outside of my home network.

Inside my network I can go to:
http://myhomeserver/PersonalSite/ and I see the DNN site and can make ALL of the changes to it

Outside my network (from WWW) I go to:
http://myhomserver.homeip.net/PersonalSite/ and I get

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

  • You are not connected to the Internet.
  • The website is encountering problems.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.

The weird thing is that I also have OTHER web applications on my home server and I can access them from the WWW by going to:
http://myhomserver.homeip.net/WebSiteA
http://myhomserver.homeip.net/WebSiteB
http://myhomserver.homeip.net/WebSiteC

 ... etc.

I have both .NET framework 1.1 and 2.0 on the machine.

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks....

-JV

Did you add a portal alias for the URL that you want to access your webserver by from outside the network?

I logged in as Host, then went to Admin -> Site Settings.

I then added the alias myhomserver.homeip.net/DNNpersonalSite/ and it's still not accessible externally...
Could it be that my alias is all messed up?

It has to be FQDN (Full Qualified Domain Name) which means it MUST be resolvable within DNS.  So if myhomserver.homeip.net is not resolvable then that could be your reason.  Also, if you have an ISP, do they filter your connection?  Do you have a firewall?  Does it all for traffic on port 80?

Good Morning,

I noticed that the Portal Alias that I added would NOT resolve within my network (myhomeserver.homeip.net) and I added an entry into the hosts file so that it would resolve internally. i.e.
127.0.0.1   localhost
127.0.0.1   myhomeserver.homeip.net
and I can now access my server from within my network using myhomserver.homeip.net.

I have a router and I'm using port forwarding to allow port 80 to go specifically to that machine. I also do not have filtering from my ISP because I can view all of my other sites on the server.

ONE INTERESTING NOTE -
When I try to access my dnn site internally, the url changes quickly from http://myhomeserver/homeip.net/personalSiteDNN to http://mySERVERNAME/PersonalSiteDNN which is also the first alias in the Portal Aliases section.... That field in the Portal Alias section is NOT editable (mySERVERNAME/PersonalSiteDNN).

Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated....
