I have done the next things to get the DNN instance work after 4 days offline !!!

  1. Main problem was that the cache was everywhere 0. So no caching at all. For all static content modules (html/ text, announcements and what is new) cachetime = 3600. I run a query for this to update everything at once. After that do not forget to clear the cache;
  2. It seems that the DNN.Modules.Discussions was not present anymore and the schedeler kept on throwing exceptions on it; the dll is missing since version 4.x.? However, still present as business controller in DesktopModules. It would be great if there would also be a way to delete old versions with a module installation. Now you can only add new files.
  3. I set the logging of the scheduler for app_start en app_down out.
  4. The search engine had no search results page, so I have added one (I have seen more posts on this subject);

However, beside the modules that do have caching, the blogging module does not for instance. So actually the database load is still a constraint to consider in this case. I hope the DNN community will also do some certification program on the DNN hosting parties so that you can see: oh, this hosting party only has max. 100 DNN portals running on a server..so my instance is save...and not 500 DNN portals.. I do not know what the criteria would be, but having to use a decidated server for a DNN website is not interesting at all. Above all, I still think/ belief that PHP + MySQL sites outperform DNN far on performance. The latency for Just-In time compiling is the first botteneck to be taken...but this is other discussion.

I hope this will help you in getting your shared databases managed as well. I will post the solution for the scheduler problem in other post.
