Thanks for the insight on the problem and the workaround method. I'll give it another (test) shot this weekend. Also, glad to see it is now in Gemini.

Cheers Ineville.
That looked like it was the problem.
I fixed this up and successfully upgraded with no errors.

One Thing I have noticed after upgrading is that filemanager doesn't work in Firefox. Seems to get a error
saying "$ is not defined" I'm thinking the error must be related to the square character that is in the value.
here is the line
*****
<input name="__dnnVariable" type="hidden" id="__dnnVariable" value="__dnn_pageloadinitFileManager();UCPrefixIDdnn_ctr358_FileManager_UCPrefixNamednn:ctr358:FileManager:DisabledButtons0IsRefresh-1MoveStatusDestPath0\LastPath0MoveFilesdnn_ctr358_FileManager_DNNTree_xml<root id=dnn_ctr358_FileManager_DNNTree><n txt=Portal Root key=0\ tTip=Portal Root imgIdx=0 css=FileManagerTreeNode id=dnn_ctr358_FileManager_DNNTree_51812368 hasNodes=1 selected=1 /></root>" />

*****
But it's working in IE so that will do me for now.

Knud - not sure what the FM problem is. My 4.3.5 FM works fine under FireFox. I did a View Page Source and found the same square chars in the same place you found them so that is probably not the problem. Sorry, can't help with this one.

Same problem here with a slight difference - I can't login after the upgrade.

And before someone says it YES the Machine validation key and decryption key are the same - copied from old web.config.
