Followed all of peterfnet's instructions and finally DotNetNuke 4.4.1 appears to be running correctly on my 1and1 account!  Thanks a lot for doing this research and posting the instructions.  Thanks to everyone who has posted here.  I really appreciate it!

Is all of this gonna be for not when 4.5 comes out?  I've been looking at hosting alternatives, and they don't look that great...this one place said $10/month for a fraction of the server space I have with 1and1...is that normal since they have sql2005 and asp.net 2???

3. [web files] Set /dnn settings to give full permissions to all users (probably should tighten up to only allow what we need)

I do not have access to give an account called ASP or NETWORK_SERVICE rights to the folder off the root, what is the problem?

After spending a week trying to install DNN 4.5.1 on 1and1, business package they say that their shared hosting servers don't support DNN at all. All this while I have been in constant touch with their tech support and they never informed me about this.

Well, I am going to try and install 4.4.1 on my business package hosting with them as per the instructions, will update this thread either ways.

Sorry about asking a silly question but I am completely new to this.

What needs to be modified in web.config in order to perform an application restart ?

I am installing DNN version 4.4.1 as per the instructions here.

Thanks

Vishal
