Try commenting out or removing the line for the Compression module in Web.config HttpModules section.

mic,

Log in as Host, go to Host Settings, go to Advanced Settings, Performance Settings, select 'No Compression' as the Compression setting. (This is not under Compression Settings, where anyone who reads the labels would logically look for it.)

Then click Update, then Restart Application, and then for good measure go back to Performance Settings and click Clear Cache.

That works for me, but not immediately - only after I've logged out and left it for a while. I'm hoping for core team comment on this issue and if it's up for fixing.

Rob

Removing it from web.config will insure that it is not used.   Yes, the host settings for turning it off are cached.

Also,  if you make changes to the Compresion section for exclusions and whitespace there is an update link for just that section which updates the Compression.config file, so I'll bet that people are missing that one, and just hitting update on the bottom of the Host Settings page.
