I am having the same error and can not export templates. For the past few days I have been exporting templates without a problem. Yesterday for the first time, I exported a template including the content. Everything worked fine and I was able to export the template with content. This morning when I try to export a template with content I am receiving the message that the export is temporarily unavailable. I can still export with out content. Does anyone know what type of content might be causing the problem? The logs have not been very helpful.

Was this ever fixed?  I'm having the same problem under 4.6.2.  I found apostrophies in the Tab Names and removed them which didn't help.  What other charaters besides apostrophies are invalid for a Tab Name to be exported.

I have the following characters that might be potential problems:

  • question mark
  • exclamation mark
  • colon
  • ampersand

I've also recusively synchronized the file system and read every forum post I can find with "export template" as my search term.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this..

anyone with  a fix for this?  I have DNN 337 and get this error when exportin template of a child portal... desperate to find answers!!!!

I am also getting an error when I try and export a template with content. It works fine without content.

I'm using DNN 4.5.3.  The intial export seems to work fine I get a confirmation within 1-2 seconds.

The Portal Template Has Been Created to C:\web\poratl453\Portals\_default\portaltest.template

But when I create a new portal (child) I recieve this error:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Xml.XmlException: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1.

Is this a common DNN problem?
