In IIS6 you can turn off recycling using the IIS manager.  In IIS5 you can turn off recycling using the ProcessModel section of the machine.config and/or web.config.

I think I'm a bit confused, why would disk module caching be faster then memory?

Also, is pageblaster a good solution for 4.5.1 or are there breaking changes?

Dax

P.S.  Mitchell Sellers, are you using PageBlaster?

Mr. Mitchell, thank you for your help. I have unchecked the box "Shutdown worker processes after being idle for..." in Application Pool properties, and this seems to have done the trick. I see that the w3wp.exe process does not stop now after X minutes of inactivity.

gerasev,

i would recommend that you do not disable worker process recycling altogether, as your application may suffer from memory leaks (e.g. if you use 3rd party modules that do not clean up properly after themselves, or retain memory due to failing to dispose of unmanaged resources). if you have access to your IIS6 admin controls, then you can use the application pool properties and schedule a time to unload e.g. a company i worked for unloaded all our app pools at 5am, and then at 5.05am ran a batch task to hit all the sites so that they were loaded when users arrived.

Cathal,

Thanks for your suggestion. Recycling at night and preparing for users in the morning is exactly what we need. We'll be implementing this method.
