I just installed DNN4 on my WinXP Pro development machine. The install was successful.

When I navigate to the login page, enter host as the user name and password, and press the login button, the screen just refreshes back to the login page. The same thing occurs when I try to log into the admin account.

No errors are logged in the EventLog table.

I ran the the code in the VS2005 debugger and determined that on postback, the Page_Load event in admin/Security/Signin.ascx.vb is executed, but the cmdLogin_Click event never gets executed.

Any suggestions?

Does the entry in the PortalAlias table match the URL you are using to reach the site?

Its possible that your hitting the default web site... but that DNN doesn't know what to do with the unknown alias ( from its point of view ).  This is the likely culprit ( e.g. Your using <machine name> but the portalalias was acually stored as "localhost" ).

Thanks. I checked the PortalAlias table and the HTTPAlias is 'localhost/DotNetNuke_2'. This is the same as the URL I used when the problem occurred.

I figured it out. The problem was that Cookieless mode was set to UseUri. I changed it to UseCookies and the login page works now.
