Guys, there is no 'leak in the DNN core', and nor should you be having this amount of performance trouble, especially on that box with 8GB RAM.

If you do not have structured, step-by-step process to performance tuning, you will go nuts (believe me, i've been there and some mornings feel like i'm back there).  There are a multitude of possible causes of your DNN install's slowness, and there is no simple anser anyone can give.

Please take this as your new bible:  http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998530.aspx

It is available as a free download but I recommend buying the paperback on Amazon.  I wish I had this a year ago, it is -invaluable- for getting your IIS/.NET Apps sailing smoothly.

I would like to thank the DNN experts for helping me with my site performance. With the informaton from this thread I have been able to greatly improve the performance of my website and I plan to make further improvements later! My site has become more popuar now and I am very happy! By removing a lot of un-used modules it has increased my page load speeds. I can't wait until I get page blaster and the SEO plugin!

Thanks Guys!

Hi,

I have splitted my database and webserver in two separate WMWare Guests. And we created the guests on the server instead on a different server. The disk I/O driver is now different. This makes up a big difference. I am only having next problems now:

  1. I have to optimize some stored procedures which are slow. I will do that no problem.
  2. I am also doubting if regular MS dataset is not faster than MS Application blocks? If so I can replace that.
  3. I see that the stored procedures GetSchedule and GetNextSchedule do take considerable performance and time on the db server. if somebody knows I do not have to figure it out?
  4. Since I have 2 VM guests now, why should I sign up for host-tracker.com to have pings to my site for 30 USD a month? Is it possible to have the database server or the dedicated server itself ping the webserver? How can I due that without having the effort to write a piece of software for it? A kind of service will do. If it a ping or an url request?
  5. I see that once you move in the store from one module to another module, the webserver needs compilation time again; so this takes time. Why does it not keep stuff compiled and recompiles it all the time? That is a waste if nothing changes. MS?
  6. I have seen that if you put cache on a module to zero, it keep on executing the stored procedure name getmodule. How can I avoid this? I cache all data myself based on the query string?
  7. Does the pageblaster understand different localizations (languages en-us or nl-nl) ? And does it allow to exlude some modules like a shopping cart? And does it allow caching on for instance a discount role which can be different per user?
  8. Since I upload data through a webservice it seems that the tabledataadapter if consuming all performance on the database server ? Can I give a tabledataadapter a lower thread priority so that it runs in the background? Does anybody know?
  9. The same data from the upload should allow the cache to be dropped. Can I do that with the pageblaster. Say: drop cache for string urls' with product=X?

Any help is appreciated. Next week I will upload the url of the site if you are interested in it. If you all look I won't need a keepalive anymore :-).

Thank you very much,
Jelle Ossewaarde

Does the pageblaster understand different localizations (languages en-us or nl-nl) ?  Yes, language is part of the cache-key.

And does it allow to exlude some modules like a shopping cart?  Yes, you can exclude urls using regex matching patterns.

And does it allow caching on for instance a discount role which can be different per user? The free version does not do this, but the PageBlaster DNN module can.

You can get a 25% discount code for the PageBlaster DNN Module by reading Tom Kraak's review at:
 http://seablick.com/blog/tabid/53/articletype/articleview/articleid/69/performance-tuning-dnn-with-pageblaster.aspx

I have posted the discount code in the comments.
