I am another disgruntled GoDaddy customer. I have managed to get them to give me local control over the DotNetNuke folder. That's great but I can't manage to restore the topics threads and post structure of the old forum.

All posts and content of the forum are present in a MS SQL server database file.

So how do I go about reapplying this to a new forum module after an old forum module crashes and I have to reset it?

please reply by email if possible.

You didn't post an e-mail address so......

Anyway try this.  There are no guaranties as I've never had this problem and don't know the forums code really well but it seems like it should work if you only have a single forum module installed.

You need access to your SQL Server to do this:

Find the forums moduleID from the Modules table in your database and write it down.

Open the table Forum_Groups and change the ModuleID Column to the value in the modules table that you wrote down.

Do the same thing for the table Forum_Statistics.

Good luck to you.

This didn't help as my module ID and other IDs matched.

I cant find a name that represents the forums and posts that I am having trouble retrieving - even through they are still present in the forums_groups and forums_posts folders. I can't seem to connect them to the module.

This can be better solved by phone - I hate emailed tech support

my email is radiosteele@hotmail.com contact me for more information. really need your help!

Thanks

You probably need to relate the posts that exist to the threads they are supposed to belong to also.  You also have to make sure all of the users that existed before do now in the new module.  The schema from what I can tell from a real quick look is:

ModuleID<--GroupID<--ForumID<--ThreadID<--PostID

                                                               ^                  ^

                                                               UserID      UserID

All of those have to match up between the new existing data and what was there originally.  Maybe post a message over in the forums project forum.  Crispy or one of the guys that work on his team might be able to help you out faster than I can.  It should be possible to do but you might get some results you are not expecting if all of the Keys don't match up.  Open up enterprise manager and create a new diagram. Import all of the tables starting with Fourm and you should get a good idea of the mapping between tables and what needs to match.
