in Host menu enable compression (but leave whitespace filter disabled).

I currently have the whitespace filter enabled; why would we not want to use it?  Granted, my html looks ugly, but I thought the general premise is that it reduces the amount of throughput, thereby decreasing load times.  No? Why the disable recommendation...will gladly change it, but like to understand the theory.

I too am curious.

I have been using it on my sites with no issues for a long time now...

While all of these suggestions are wonderful, useful and necessary, there is one more that will resolve a lot of problems... PROPERLY CONFIGURED HOST SERVICE.

We just moved several portals from the host we were using to PowerDNN.com and it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much faster than the previous one... with exact same dnn configs... (check out http://www.almondnet.com and http://www.wearefinance.com) Not to mention the 100% uptime... We have KeeperUp soft (you can get it from snowcovered.com) that keeps apps alive and sends email on faliure. So far, sites were down once for 3 minutes and the guys at powerdnn contacted us over the phone to explain the reasons and corrected the issue. My mind is finally at ease as far as hosting goes...

Plus, they take care of the whole set up - you don't need to tell them what rigths to grant to which user, etc.

whitespace filter is de facto already included in compression, combining both will therefore lead into a (minor) decrease of performance.

Can elict the skin mechanism so that lead into a better performance?

Please see this topic about DNN  performance that I throw around in the forum.
