Yes.... I had this problem too!! This seems to be a 4.8 thing cause it happened to me from a clean install. I turned off the sych schedule job then just clicked by way through the file manager until I was able to start giving permissions again.

Do this at your own risk, but I also deleted all the records from the folderpermission and Folders tables before I ran the Synch icon on File Manager, after I turned of the scheduler job.

I'm experiencing the same thing, with DNN 4.7. Has this been determined to be a bug?

I've resolved the problem. In looking more closely at the Folders table, I scanned for anomalies that might be causing the directory tree to disappear. I found two rows for the portal in question that had empty FolderPath fields. On deleting these records, the File Manager directories worked again.

there shall be one entry per portal (including host) with an empty folder path for the root, all others shall have nonempty paths and no duplicates per portal.
