Is there any way I can salvage all of my work if I decide to re-install? And would you recommend installing DNN 4.0 instead of 3.2? All of the modules I purchased are supposed to work for 4.0.

Absolutely,  I will put the instructions up on my site on Monday.

Thanks Michael,

I get the distinction of the subfolder business. I have already installed DNN 3.2, with a SQL (not MySQL) database and have a lot of work into the site including uploading skins, modules, content etc.

Is there any way I can salvage all of my work if I decide to re-install? And would you recommend installing DNN 4.0 instead of 3.2? All of the modules I purchased are supposed to work for 4.0.

Thanks again for your insight,

Mike

My 2 cents, for what they're worth.... GoDaddy will not allow version 4.0 to run on their servers for security reasons.  You're currently limited to 3.x.  Also, if you used the automatic install, there is no way for you to backup the database and later be able to restore it.  So, yes, from my first hand experience, you've wasted your time.  Sorry for the bad news.

However, if you choose another provider, like webhosting4life.com, you will not be nickeled and dimed for "upgrades", have a database which is 20 times larger and no download limits.   GoDaddy is great for many things, in my opinion, hosting DNN sites is not one of them.

You have abviously not read any of my posts nor even the one in this very thread (stating that my site which is 4.02 is running on Go Daddy or have simply chosen to ignore them.  I suggest you request a refund on your two cents...

Just so that there is no missunderstaning; I have no affilitation with Go Daddy and many if the issues with setting up a DNN site on a shared hosting plan with Go Daddy will be encountered with other hosters, especially if their security is setup correctly.

Now I'm really lost.  No affiliation?   Then why do your "Go Daddy" links in the above message run through an marketing affiliation site?  You even took the time to edit my quote to do so.

Perhaps you have a different hosting level.  But a simple search will show that I'm right.  And dude... take a chill pill.  No reason to be an ass.  I'm trying to help this guy, not make money like you.  I spent 3 months and hundreds of hours trying to work with GoDaddy on DNN support issues.  I know what their response was.

By no association I mean I do not work for nor promote Go Daddy.  As for my post I tried to lighten it up a bit with the refund comment.  So I don't think I need any pills thank you.

I am not trying to make money, but if they use the link I provided then why shouldn't I.  All I am saying is that you are giving bad advice when there is a perfectly good proof that DNN 4.02 works just fine on Go Daddy shared hosting.  I understand that you had a difficult time setting up and running on Go Daddy, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible.  You just didn't have any instructions to follow when you originally setup your site.  I took the time to figure out how to setup on Go Daddy and wrote the instructions out for all.  Please take the time to read them before saying that it is not possible, especially when the second post in this thread states so.

The remainder of this thread should be left for the original poster so that we can solve their problem, answers like it isn't possible or out of luck aren't going to help.

As for correcting your current install, it is possible I just have to make sure of the correct way.
