I see that dotnetnuke allows you to have multiple portals. Can you host multiple domains:

mywebsite1.com

mywebsite2.com

with one installation of dotnetnuke?

thanks

Nick

Yes.  They're called Parent Portals in DNN.

Nick,

To expand on Jeff's answer......

In our installation, the initial portal (portal 0) is simply using the IP address (for example:  192.168.1.100).

When I create new portals, I initially create them as child portals of the root (for example:  192.168.1.100/site1   ...   192.168.1.100/site2).

I then add a portal alias to the portals with the actual domain name (for example:  www.site1.com ...  www.site2.com ).

This is especially important if there is an existing site which will be MIGRATING to dnn.  During development, use the "child portal" address.  Once the site is ready to go, I add the portal alias and configure the DNS records.

Please note, that this is NOT a recommended use case.

To use DNN multiportal feature with multiple domains (main or subdomains), you need to make sure that your Name server and IIS are routing the domain to the web site, where your DotNetNuke is installed. now login to the first domain as superuser ("host") and go to Portals in host menu. Here create the new portal with the appropriate domain address.

If you need to prepare a web site, while the domain is still in use by its precessor, use a subdomain (e.g. new.mydomain.com) of your own domain or the customers domain and add the final address as additional host header value at the bottom of Site Settings module. This is preferable to child portals (www.mydomain.com/new), because relative paths to images and files will be preserved.

Yes, you can host multiple domains under single dnn installation. Each domain would present a different website.

If you are using Godaddy, i have prepared useful tutorials about this scenario. If interested please visit my website.
