I did some more testing on this problem.

When I put this code in head tags it is not proccessed, but when I put code in body tags it is proccessed with some strange issue. In page source I see that code, but it starts with <!--[if]>, not <!--[if IE]> like it is specified in html. And on web display in IE I see <!--[if]><![endif]--> code.  It loads css for IE fine.

What could be the problem for this and I am still confused why you guys can easily put this code in head and it works?

Ivan:

What version of DNN are you using? Are you using any javascript libraries that might be processing the <!--[if IE]>?  I've used this method from 4.8.3 - 5.0.0 without issue, so I'm pretty confounded.

Even if it reads <!--[if]>, it still makes sense that IE processes the conditional comments for two reasons: 1) Only IE supports this behavior, and 2) it's an empty if clause, so IE will always process it.  This could be bad if you're trying to target specific browser hacks, but I suspect it might actually do the trick for you.

Dmeiser, I am using DNN version 4.9.

I didn't manual installed any javascript libraries, except maybe some that came with some 3rd party modules. Yes, it seems that IE always process this, but it is problem for me, like you said, because I need to target IE 6.

So, any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks, Ivan

Also if I put some comment in a page, I can't see that comment in page source.

Ivan,

I reread the thread and saw this.  Are you using a third party rewriter/cacher (such as PageBlaster), by any chance?

Also, do you have a link? I don't think looking at the source will help, but it can't hurt.

Dmeiser,

No, I do not use any third party rewriter.

My site is in developing stage and isn't on internet yet. But, this is copy of code that is in IE source: <!--[if]><link href="/portals/1/skins/bailecubano/skinIE.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" /><![endif]-->

FF source doesn't have that comment.
