  • In "site settings", set user registration to private, if you want visitors allow to register, but need to be acknowledged by the admin - they will automatically get notification emails.
  • In "site Settings", do not specify any pages in page management without need.
  • register and login are usually provided by the skin on every page, do NOT place Account Login on a page (it is only for specific configurations). When you understand skinning, you can move the [user] and [login] tags e.g. to a less prominent part of the page, if desired.
  • if you don't want to display a blank page, disallow view for all users.

If you set up a site like this (and that is, how www.deutschnetnuke.net is configured) you only need to login as admin or host, to be able to edit all pages as usual. Hope this makes it clear.

Gotcha!!! I get it now... you can have the admin and host login at the same point as registered users it just takes you to a different area. Now I feel dumb! Okay, last question. I registered a test user account and logged in. Now how do I get the members area page to be displayed as a link to click on but only available when the member logs in? It's still not on the menu... Thanks again for your help I couldn't have done it without you!

you nearly got it: logging in as host / admin brings you onto the same page, but with different permissions. It is the permission, that shows menu items and modules - including admin menu for admin and hosts and host menu for hosts only. If you want your members to see the member pages, you have to log in as admin/host and either go to Admin::User Accounts, select edit for the specific user profile and click "manage roles for this user" at the bottom of the page or go to Admin::Security Roles, select edit for your membership role and select "manage users for this role" from the bottom of the page. The following steps should be self explaining .

After you assigned the user to the group, he will find the appropriate menu entry.(except you selected "disabled" in advanced page settings - this option should remain unchecked!)

AFAIR, DNN is secure, as it checks the permissions on page entry - so security mainly depends on the passwords you use - "host" as password for "host" user is not recommended
