Hi,

I am new to DNN, and have a configuration issue that I have tried everything that I know of and still not able to get it resolve.

Current Settings

I installed DNN 5.2 on our server and have an internal DNS called http://portal

I also open a port on our firewall and have an external DNS called  http://portal.mycompany.com

Once I finish my installation and login as admin and navigate to Site Settings Page portal alisaes and this is what I see:

portal

I added new alias

http://portal.mycompany.com

Problem

When I am inside our network I can navigate to the portal using http://portal

When I use http://portal.mycompany.com I will get redirect to http://portal

Everything is OK so far

When I am accessing the portal using http://portal.mycompany.com from the outside of our network I got the message stating that IE was able to contact the site but the resource cannot be found.

Can anyone guide me on how to fix this issue.  My guess is that IIS / DNN tried to redirect http://portal.mycompany.com to http://portal which only known to the internal network.

Thanks,

Alan

do not enter "http://" in front of the portal alias.

Hi,

I tried with or with out the http://portal.mycompany.com and portal.mycompany.com both give the same result.  For Internal it would redirect back to http://portal but doesn't work when access from the external network.

I know for sure the external DNS & and Firewall port forward setup correctly

Thanks,

Alan

are you able to access a "helloworld.htm" and "helloworld.aspx", if placed in the root of the web site?

Hi Sebastian,

It is weird that both helloworld.html and helloworld.aspx worked with both the internal and external URL from inside the network as well as external network.

I still don't know what is going on.

Thanks,

Alan
