Hi Grenzo,

If you mean by spiders reading your pages in English, that your sites description is in English instead of italian, when displaying the search results, I found this is caused by the geo IP address being activated.  For some reason....the search engines very often have a English/US IP address, therefore your content is passed to them in English, even if your portal default is another language.

My multiple langauge control of choice is DSLocalizator. In this you have an option to turn off/disable geo IP address detection, if you use DSLocalizator then do this and your website should be picked up in Italian.

Of course this does create the problem that your website description in the results of any other country will also be in Italian......

Regards,

Dave.

AFAIK Geo IP is NOT used to determine visitor language, the only option is using preferred browser language.

Hi Sebastian,

DSLocalizator, does have a geoIP option,  to be honest I've not looked into exactly what it is doing.  But I did find that disabling this option in DSLocaizator worked.  I orginal had this option to be used after everything else, like url, cookie, user choice..etc.. but still my search engine results where in English.  The only thing that seemed to solve the problem was to turn this option off in DSLocaizator.

I'll refer you to the ddn-eurpoean private forum, where you helped solve the issue.

Dave, thanks for the pointer. I never used DSLocalizator myself, therefore I am not familiar with its GeoIP options. if there is a language editor, which renders as link list for the crawler, and the language is included in the URL, search engines should index all language versions properly.

I did try using the language param option in DNN, but still my site description in the SE results were in English, not French!

Now you say this, I thinking that maybe because I register my sites with google as a base url (www.mysite.com) then at this point there is no language in the url...hence English!, but why when I turned geo IP off in DSLocalizator did it work OK?

The links in the website, do follow through with the language param so the websites do reference in all languages, it was just that, when searching for just words in the url or title, default description displayed in the results where in English....

Ideally when searching from a English language SE site, the results should be in English, when search for a website from a French language SE site, the results would be in French.   However this doesn;t seem to happen, even though the website is reference in English and French!...I can type English content in and the results are in English, likewise if I search with French content, however if I search, just for the title the results were in English, even on the French search engine.  So in the end I decided to get the best I could by making the site result description French (for when searching for the title or url words), by turning off the geoIP.

Hope this makes sense?

Regards,

Dave.
