We currently host an in-house Exchange server and have configured DotNetNuke's SMTP settings to send email through it.

 Brian,
Please tell me how you are getting this to work, I've been banging my head against the wall for hours now trying to use my Exchange server as the SMTP server on my hosted DNN site. I keep getting "There has been an error trying to send the test email. The error is:
There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent." when using valid credentials and everything. You help would be tremendously appreciated.

Correct. Exchange Online uses authenticaiton. When setting DNN up for Basic, SSL, using the same domain for the Host address and username, providing the password and then clicking Test, the test fails. I have added the IP address of the site to the Safe Senders setting in Exchange Online. This still doesnt work.

DNN needs to provide a better view into what's going on behind the scenes with the SMTP testing. It is difficult to troubleshoot thiis with no more information other than "There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server."

Hi everyone,

I'm pleased to let you all know I have figured this one out.

In your Host settings, set your SMTP server to "smtp.office365.com", Basic Authentication with SSL, and log in with a full valid email address for your domain.

The emails from DNN will then work.

Steve.
