I just want accounts to be deleted as in DNN4 and that's the end of it.

Rob, there are advantages of soft delete, but of course this feature needs to be completed.

Cheers from Germany,

Hi Sebastian, It's nothing but unnecessary trouble so far, but if it starts laying golden eggs then I'll relent :) Rob

I agree with Rob - old user accounts should just be deleted like they were in DNN 4 & are in just about every other CMS in the world. Module developers have worked with hard deletes for many years & have worked out ways to handle hard deleted users, so why did this need to be change?

The issues with soft delete have been mentioned many times before & people have put in bug & enhancement requests to Gemini without enough action being taken.

If the corp decides to keep this soft delete users thing then:

  1. it should only be an additional option that people can turn on if they want to (in either admin or host settings)
  2. the soft delete users need to be fully implemented with options to restore a user or hard delete a user through the admin interface
I hope that DNN understands that keeping users data may be a security/privacy issue to some businesses & website owners.

One example that I have mentioned before is that we have created an escort profiles site using DNN 4. Currently we are unable to update this site to DNN 5 as escorts that no longer work in the business will be not able to delete their profiles in a secure manner. Even if we changed the sp to hard delete the users after every upgrade, it still poses a security risk as DNN is starting to let other module developers retain dirty data (they call it dirty data for a reason...).

I know if I deleted my facebook profile (which had my personal data on it) & this information turned up in the future either by facebook getting hacked or a bad employee disclosing my information, I would be very pissed off & I bet my solicitor would be very happy thinking of how much he was going to sue them for.

Basically all I'm trying to say is the word "delete" should really mean "delete".
