I have a clean DNN 5.6.2 installation that the file manager is throwing errors left and right.

I can't do anything to add files, upload files, or manage folders.

One of the key errors that is going on like nuts is

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.ActionBase.get_ActionRoot() at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.ActionBase.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Anyone else have this issue?

I think there is a lot broken in File Managegement in 5.6.2. I have similar issue, first of all Telerik RadEditor's Image/Doc/Flash/Media content woudln't render. So I went into file manager and tried resync, that didn't help. So I removed Portal folder all together and went back to Admin > File Manager and tried recursive sync to "clean it up", but that ended in viewstate error and after that File Manager disabled itself whatsoever (everything greyed out, yet on Host page > FM was working). So I went into SQL Files&Folders tables and what not these entries there were very outdated, so i removed them by hand and voila, Host > FM followed same disabled state as one under Admin.

And now for my solution, I went into "FileManager.ascx.vb" and manually enabled chkRecursive and sync button. And after doing recursive under Admin > FM it not just found and indexed all files and written them properly into SQL, but also reinstated my permission to use all Admin > FM controls AND fixed RadEditor. But yet trying recursive on Host > FM is not working whatsoever. I think this part of DNN needs some serious love :).

Maybe for you complete "from scratch" resync would fix the problem too.

it looks like DNN 5.6.2 does nt properly initialize files, folders and folder permissions, clearing files and folder tables and re-index should solve the issues.

Just a quick note for anyone that's run into this problem, or the problem where the portal admin can't access anything in the filemanager/telerik editor. I've found a workaround that seems to fix the problem (just had to run it on 15 portals this morning). Step by step instructions are at http://www.dotnetnukefool.com/Blog/EntryId/22/Pesky-little-Admin-permissions-problem-in-DNN-5-62.aspx
