I'm using 5.6.3 on my production site. I think I started with DNN 5.5 and I've been upgrading every release since then.

To try and address this problem I upgraded my development site to DNN 6 and I have a host of new UI problems. I notice that the login now comes up in a popup instead of a new page. Is there a way to secure this, or if I simply secure every page on my site, will the log in be secure as well?

Oh also, I still don't have Account Login and User Account.  This is very frustrating, and I can't find any indication of how to re-add these modules, if indeed they even exist anymore.  I'm trying to go live with a business site, but my inability to ensure security for simple things like login is really problematic.

I think I'm going to download a complete install and see if I can obtain these two module packages.

fwiw - you wont find an account login install package in the install.zip package.

The account login module is installed as part of the authentication package - and as such there is not separate install for this module.
You can however MAKE a new installer from this package if you create a new install site.

Login as HOST and go to the Extensions page
Edit the Authentication module
Down the bottom of the edit page u should see a Create Module option.
Click this a follow the steps
at the end of the process the file DotNetNuke_DotNetNuke.Authentication_01.00.00_Install.zip
will be created in the /install/modules folder on your website.

Thanks for the advice.  I made an install package as you suggested, but after doing an install (repair) I still didn't have the Account Login module.

I checked both the manifest and the module settings and saw that unlike other module settings which contain a list of module definitions and their associated controls, authentication modules only define Login Control Source and Settings Control Source paths.  In my installation they are DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/DNN/Login.ascx and DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/DNN/Settings.ascx respectively.  I confirmed that those paths were correct and that the controls were there.

I also noticed I have LiveID Auth and OpenID Auth installed.  I have no idea how'd I even go about using either of those, since I can't find any login module.  I tried creating a new module for Account Login by creating a new module and selection the DNN default login.ascx and settings.ascx as controls in the module definition, but that didn't work.  I dropped the module on a page and the login fields were displayed, but entering credentials and clicking the button didn't actually log me in.

Last note.  The tutorial I first referenced said to use the User Account module, which was confusing since I don't have that.  I do have a module called ViewProfile, which I think is the same thing.

So now I'm just stuck on creating a secure login page still :(
