I am using a shared ssl url e.g. https://secure.MyHostWebsite.com/MyFolder provided by my hosting provider, pointing at my root directory, can anyone advise if shared ssl can be used for securing the login page? The reason I ask is that when I log on using the shared https url (which is now also an alias in my site), I am only logged on to this alias, and not logged on to my default alias e.g. http://www.MyWebsite.com...

Once logged in, all the links point internally within the https url e.g about us page would be
https://secure.MyHostWebsite.com/MyFolder/AboutUs.aspx

instead of
http://www.MyWebsite.com/AboutUs.aspx

if I navigate back to MyWebsite after loging in, the login link is available again, suggesting I am not logged in. Has anyone else tried setting up ssl with a shared url?

Thanks

have you set up the standard url page also - see http://help.webcontrolcenter.com/KB/a1028/setting-up-the-shared-ssl-with-dnn.aspx / http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/forumid/108/threadid/248757/scope/posts/threadpage/2.aspx

Yeah, ive set up the url's as the post suggested, but the admin login does not carry over to the http pages.

1. I click login... Which takes me to my shared SSL url... all good so far
2. I log in as admin, which works fine... the login page stays... I am now logged in... Admin and Logout appear top right.
3. I click the home page, which reverts back to http as expected... Here the login link appears again (where the Admin Logout links should be)... I am no longer logged in... as expected the control panel has gone and the manage buttons have gone.
4. If I click Login, I am taken to the shared SSL url and the Admin and Logout links appear again... this is the only page where I am logged in.

Does the [canonical - redirect - None] setting affect this... It's set to none.

Am I missing something?

...At present, I am unable to edit my website (I'll update the database to turn off the secure flag)

the redirect should not affect this - what you describe is how Id set it up, so im not sure what the issue could be -could you please log this as an issue at support.dotnetnuke.com (with as much detail as possible regarding sslurl/standardurl/portalalias) so we can investigate further.
