Hello,

It seems like for properly setting up a mobile site, the "site groups" are critical. Otherwise, your users will need to setup different accounts across the two different portals. Is that correct? Related to this, I have a few questions...

First, is it best to create a "child" portal, or a normal portal with the same TLD? In the video, Chris used a normal portal... So I just wanted to check on this.

Second, is it possible to use site groups in the community edition? Is it like the mobile redirects, where we just need to make an interface? Or is it not possible? If it isn't possible, is there any other way share users across sites?

Thanks,

Mike

"Site Groups" is not required for Mobile site, although it'll help if you want to take advantage of the Site Groups feature.

Mobile site can be created on both Parent and Child sites. In Chris video, a parent site was used, but a child site will very well work. The DNN World site is a good example:

Desktop site: http://dotnetnukeworld.dotnetnuke.com/
Mobile site: http://dotnetnukeworld.dotnetnuke.com/mobile

Site Group APIs are available in Community Edition, similar to Mobile Redirect functionality. The UI to manage these are present in Professional and Enterprise editions. Other than that, the community edition has the capabilities to share users between sites.

Great! Thanks Ash!

Yeah - that's basically what I was finding in my testing...

I didn't realize you could share users and things with child portals... Is that only with the portal groups stuff? or has that always been there?

Thanks,

Mike

Yeah you can share users with child portals as well. And yes, the site group feature allows you to do this. Feature is added in 6.1.0

Can someone tell me what is meant by sharing "things" between the normal and child portals?
