Hello Everyone,

I have been trying to incorporate a registration form onto my website, where the College Representatives would register their institution.

All the registered institutes would be shown in a grid and would be editable only by their respective Representatives.

I can set up the permissions manually also if needed. At this point of time, I am more concerned about the Registration form and process involved.

Any idea, is it better to create a new module or using a standalone ASP.NET application within an IFRAME.

I see option #2 is always easier unless there is something that I am missing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ashutosh

The whole point of dnn is that it is a fully extensible system.

Creating modules in dnn is a pretty straight forward process if you already have some experience building asp.net applications.

And what you get thru a module is full access to the dnn application api and resources such as native user and permission management.

I personally would definitely go down the module route - its just not that hard - oh especially it you are looking at a private module.  In which case if you create the module using the WAP methodology - do dont even need to worry about building and compiling - you can pretty much just directly code and run.

Yes, you should build your own module and use everything that DNN already gives you.  Granted - a slight learning curve - but everybody's first tutor (Michael Washington) has been making tutorials over the years to help out. http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNu...

All membership info will be done via DNN - and you'll just need to store a relations to the UserID in your custom info to know which item the user can specifically edit.

If you know .net and need to build a quick and dirty module, try code gen dnnbuilda

http://dnnbuilda.codeplex.com/

It gen a skeleton module. you can then customize it to your need.

A modulel like Property Agent from Ventrian would be great for this. Although is typically implemented for real estate or vehicle listings. it has the ability to function as a user "listing" module for almost anything. I've used it for business directories before and it supports:

Custom fields (add whatever you want)
Photos
Granular Security based on role (basic colleges only can upload one photo but super duper colleges can upload 25)
Users maintain their own records but not others
UI and layouts are completely template-able
Search is built in
Browse if built in
geo Coordinate are built in (and can be used in search)
Source Code comes with it.
It's like $49 US for the year subscription which includes all of their other modules.

Ye,s you could build your own, but this will likely get you there very quickly with no dev time
