How do you access a DNN website from another computer running on the same network? At this point, my site is not live on the internet but it is running locally on my machine. I am trying to access it from another computer on the same network using the ip address of my machine instead of the localhost address. Say my website URL is http://localhost:30814/ and my ip address is 191.141.0.101, I typed in http://191.141.0.101:30814/ on the other computer on my network but I get a message saying the webpage cannot be displayed. Why is this the case? Could it have something to do with my firewall settings?

I got a response saying the following: "You will need to add a portalalias for the host machine's ip address."

If that response is true, how do I add a portal alias to my host machines ip address? Otherwise, how can I access the site from another computer on the same network as mentioned above.

Ip Address must be added to the IIS site settings as a domain, and must be added as alias on your dnn settings.

If you are getting the PortalAlias message, then you should be ok with the webserver settings and just need to worry about updating your DotNetNuke settings.

In DotNetNuke 6 (older versions will vary just slightly), Go to your "Admin/Site Settings" page.  Click on the "Advanced Settings" tab, and then open the "Site Aliases" section.  Click on the Add New Alias button and create an alias for the 191.141.0.101 IP address you wish to use.

I will walk you through what I did because I am still having trouble. My local website has home page: http://localhost:30810/en-ca/home.aspx. The computer that I would like to log in from has IP address: 191.161.0.101.

I logged in as Host then went to Admin -> Site Settings -> Site Aliases -> Add new alias -> I typed in 191.161.0.101:30810. Now, I went to the computer with IP address 191.161.0.101 -- it is on the same network as my machine -- and I typed in 191.161.0.101:30810/en-ca/home.aspx to the URL bar. However, when I do this I get an error saying that the page cannot be displayed. I waited a few hours and tried again but the same error message comes up on Internet Explorer.

Did I do something wrong? How do I fix this problem?
