In that case, I think the only way to solve that is to use a keep-alive service to prevent IIS from removing your site from cache.   If it's just a JIT problem then that will solve it.  If you find another way around that, I would love to hear about it.

it's not intended for performance tracing, but you may consider setting log4net to All to see if the timings in it offer any clues - http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/...

Mike,

DNN 7.2.1 incorporate a few basic pieces out of my script, a couple additional ones will be included in DNN 7.2.2, but the more effective ones have either not yet been touched or withdrawn. The most effective part is TurboSchema, which would require a new handling of upgrade scripts for the core framework (and extensions, to offer the same performance options).

And: performance is not an exclusive subject of the database layer, see https://dnntracker.atlassian.net/browse/DNN-4776 for example.

Note: it is a good advice, not having many filed in root folder or in page/portal icons folder(s).

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold

Do you have a lot of files in your portals?  I helped someone upgrade to 7.2.1 recently and it had the same issue.  It was caused by the File Content Manager processing all of the files in the portal.  In this case, it was triggered by opening the Site Settings which causes the URL File Picker control to load the files in the current portal.

That portal had over 12,000 files.  It never completed the task and crashed the entire site.

I've seen this happen before, in a custom module I built for a 7.1 site. The URL File Picker loads all folders in a portal into viewstate, regardless of what you put in the settings. Not sure if these are cached or not though. At anyrate, if you have a lot of users or a lot of folders and files, you will def notice. The more file upload controls on a page, the worse it gets. I noticed this when I used grunt.js in my skin folder. Grunt will produce a ton of little files/folders when it's doing it's processing, and all those get indexed. Now when I create my skins, I put the css and js in a folder off the installation root and have grunt output the files to the skins directory.

That was a long way of saying that the File Picker could use some optimization.
