Not sure if this will help but in my case I have the same problem. The firewall I use is a Watchguard firewall with VPN built in. If I connect through this vpn it assigns me an ip address and represents the rest of the internal network as a different IP address range. As the poster before ask you to try it with the IP address, the http:// is required.

The only way to fix this is to have an internal dns server accessible to both the internal LAN and the VPN clients in which you can list the web server as both the internal IP and the VPN assigned IP. Personally I just use the http://ip.address:port to access the site. Any way you access the site MUST be listed in the sites/portals alias list or it will NOT work.

Hopefully this will help as you say you can pull up a .htm page from your vpn connection, you can use the server address (http://what ever is here/) as your alias in your DNN site/portal setting.

Thanks, njohnson,

I am using IP address and still can't get there. I am pursuing other avenues including SQL permissions and this server did come with ASP.net 1.1 architecture installed which I did not get rid of before going with 2.0. I have designated 2.0 vs. 1.1 on ann property dialogue's where it is choosable and the old site uses 1.1 successfully but is it possible that the 1.1 could be causing confusion for the newer version?

Appreciative of all suggestions,

Hal

Ifigured it out... I had a second portal with a conflicting alias. When I deleted it and re did the portal alias using the ip address it worked.

Thanks to all for their input.

I am having the same problem but for some reason I am still not able to connect to the intranet from my remote location. I used fiddler and it shows that it is getting the install.css.
I am replacing an old Intranet (static .html pages that works fine) .  I have added Portal alias's using the IP address but no luck so far.. The site does work for remote users connecting directly to my VPN server BUT does not work for users at my remote location that is connected by a persistant VPN and a static route for the main office subnet.
Any help would be appreciated..
