Hi Barry,
There used to be an admin manual as well, but this does not cover cloning DNN, AFAIR.
To clone a DNN installation, backup the database and restore (on same server with a different name or on a different SQL Server). You also need a SQL Server login with user mapping onto this database including dbowner permission.
Next backup all files and restore into the target directory, which should be configured in IIS as website in an IIS app pool with appropriate ASP.Net version in integrated mode.
Edit connection string in the cloned web.config file to meet your database location and login.
Use SQL Server Management Studio to edit entry in PortalAlias table of the database to meet the new domain address.
