UPDATE: The suggestion by BarryS in the 4th post solved my problem. We pointed the Hosts file on the local server to match the new DNS; thus allowing me to log in locally on the server and add the new Portal alias to DNN.

I think I am. Sorry if this is a dumb question. I just don't have time to serch for the answer. The site is down. Help me, I am an idiot.

I had to move my DNN server to a new building. So now it has a new IP and a new URL.  But I did not set it up ahead of time in the Host menu/Site settings of DNN4. And for somoe reason, even using /localhost will not bring up my portals. Where can I change something to get back in.

Example - Server was on 100.100.100.98 with dummy.com for the url. I set that up in DNN4 and it was working fine

Nowthe server is on 100.100.98.97 with bigdummy.com as the url. When I browse local host on the server, I get page not found for DNN. It I turn DNN off and thurn on a simple generic web, browing locally and to bigdummy works, so I know IIS is accepting requests.

Do I need to open a table in SQL to change something?

Yes, you can add a record to the PortalAlias table to correct this.  Make sure you restart the app after making the change, because these settings are cached.

Fantastic, and thanks for the fast reply  :)

I want to make sure I get it right. I am looking at the table. I just have two records. Can I add a third and forth or should I modify them? I need to use bigdummy.com now for the root.

Hi solarspin, try this:

If you are able to run queries on the SQL box, you may be able to change a portal or portal alias tables to update dummy.com to bigdummy.com, but I don't know enough about the inner workings of dnn to confidently tell you what to do in there.

If you are unable to do this you or your host will need to temporarily add dummy.com as a host header in IIS on the new server pointing at your dnn directory.  When this has been done, assuming that you are using XP/Windows 2000 on your local machine, go to [systemdrive]:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and open the 'hosts'  file with notepad.  Add the following line:

100.100.98.97   dummy.com

(press the tab key once to put the spaces between the ip address and the hostname) and save it, making sure you save without an extension/suffix. If you give your computer a couple of seconds to recognise the new hosts file, you should now be able to open a command prompt and type

ping dummy.com

press return, and when you get a response from 100.100.98.97 open your browser and browse to http:dummy.com, this should bring up your site.  Add bigdummy.com as an alias, and update, then browse to http://bigdummy.com
