Hi, I would like that users click on a button to select their prefered skin. Is that possible passing query strings or something?

I would create links so they click on them with corresponding skin parameters.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your answer John,

From what I understand I can:

1. Can pass the skin name in a query string: but it is lost between page changes

2. Set the cookie on code: is core modification needed?

I would appreciate that you clarify a little how to do it

Thanks!

Yes, you can pass it on the querystring like the preview skin does, or you can place it in a cookie to save it.

No core changes are needed.  The core code was changed after the discussion in those threads and is now setup to apply the skin if the User has a skin cookie set.  The name of the cookie is _SkinSrc0, where the zero on the end is the portal ID.

Here is the code from the core default.aspx.vb (this is only for reference, you don't neet to do anything but set the cookie to make it work).

        ctlSkin = LoadSkin(PortalSettings.ActiveTab.SkinSrc)

' load user skin ( based on cookie )If ctlSkin Is Nothing Then  If Not Request.Cookies("_SkinSrc" & PortalSettings.PortalId.ToString) Is Nothing Then    If Request.Cookies("_SkinSrc" & PortalSettings.PortalId.ToString).Value <> "" Then        PortalSettings.ActiveTab.SkinSrc = SkinController.FormatSkinSrc(Request.Cookies("_SkinSrc" & PortalSettings.PortalId.ToString).Value & ".ascx", PortalSettings)      End If   End IfEnd If
