Maybe I mis-understood the answers also... I was under the impression previously that DNN only supports "one" menu structure, but you can have multiple menus on your page. That meant that you can display different portions of that menu in different places, but it was all still part of the same menu structure.

How about this idea then? Create your normal DNN menu structure with ALL of your menu items on it, with each section of the menu that you want to display as a seperate menu having it's top-level menu item at the base level of the DNN menu system. Then add in seperate menus on the screen, each with it's root being one of the items at the top-level of the DNN menu system. Once you have those in place, disable the display of the main DNN menu.

That should give the illusion of having seperate menus.

Hi Kadar,

I don't know your problem in details, but I think it can be done if you use some tricks to display two diffrent menus.
If you have your site runing please send us a link in order to find a solution.

If I understand correctly, I think this is the same issue as what I need.

From what Kadar says it could be like this:

Website Area A
Menu Item 1
Menu Item 2
Menu Item 3
 Menu Item 3a
 Menu Item 3b
Menu Item 4

Website Area B
Menu Item 1
Menu Item 2
 Menu Item 2a
 Menu Item 2b
 Menu Item 2c
Menu Item 3
Menu Item 4

Where depending which area the visitor is in, they will only see the menu items for that area. I suppose this might be done dynamically depend on which area the current page is... or possibly as 2 separate page skins, each showing one of the menus.

I'm not sure how the menus are setup to do this, and how the levels or 'IndicateChildren' actually works and relates to the page structure in DNN. What needs to be added to the Nav for it to work? And how is the page structure (like example above) actually setup to achieve this?

I've also noticed the links used in the default MinimalExtropy as follows:

<dnn:LINKS runat="server" ID="dnnLINKS" CssClass="links" Level="Root" Separator=" | " />

I'm unsure if that may lead to a solution, but I am guessing it doesn't include submenus and dropdowns.

Hi,

I have implemented two menus in diffrent portals but I don't know exactly your case. Is it what you are lookin for:

There are two menus (forget flash menu, it can be done with solpartmenu too): top menus and left menus. You should know that left menu is submenu items of top menu.

I do like that, and would like to know and understand how it's done... but it's not what I (and I think the Op) am after.

Essentially... the menu itself is what changes depending what 'section' is being looked at.

Eg...

A splash screen appears, or home page - with 2 options which might be - Students | Teachers

The site under that is similar, but with different pages/tabs for each and a slight different menu... but can probably switch to the other under another choice.

Might possibly be similar... thinking that the main menu (in your link) could be the two different sections and presented as such - and with the secondary (your side menu) could be the different pages under each of the sections... though presented as a main menu.

Would it pretty much work along those lines?

Can it handle further sub-menus... so a 3rd menu depth could have the drop-down or slide-out menus too?

What sort of settings are needed for DNN NAV or solpart for it to pick up just the pages in those sections?

Thanks
