I'm kinda curious about the construction of that link, and maybe someone else can point this out as well but why are you using the runat="server" attribute in an A tag?

It is a simple test case. There was no runat=server before. But I tried to put it after I saw there was no change in color of the link.

I used Firebug to check and saw that the rule of skin overrided it.

I have also noticed that when I put the generic link/anchor CSS in with my skin CSS it has no effect.

Recently I found that modifying the CSS in the portal does have an effect, but it still doesn't seem to work as it should. I make sure to put them in the correct order (LVHA) but no matter what I put on the "link" section is still shows up with the default settings. If I set the "visited" settings to what I want the link to be, then it sort of works.

To change the portal CSS, go to Admin > Site Settings > Stylesheet Editor.

If anyone has more info on how to really fix this, I would love to hear it too.

One other thing I just noticed is that it may be your targeting of the item that is the problem. Try targeting it specifically and see what happens, example:

a.myex:link { }
a.myex:active { }
a.myex:hover { }
a.myex:visited { }

That should only change links specifically of the class 'myex'.  Good luck.

There are two huge rules you should be following while skinning.  First, override the default styles of DNN when you are having these kinds of problems.  And two, define custom and unique classes to prevent these kinds of problems.

(Obviously, there is much more to skinning, but those are important points.)
