I know that http://demo.dotnetnukeskins.com has multi menu - but not sure if it's how you think it will work.

You could also use third party options such as http://www.houseofnuke.com house menu and/or http://www.inventua.com - side or top menu to do this, or breadcrumb links skinobject or links skinobject.

The pros and cons of each I see are -

Module based for some - have to add on each page.

Skinobject base for some - means you need different skins on the pages with the menu settings - eg.. root, parent same level, which throws different results based on the depth of the skin.

They are just some ideas that come to hand.

did look at www.inventura.com exactly what i want it to do but didn't want to go down the route of placing module on pages  for menu.thought it would be better to hard code onto skin, have managed to get the three menus onto the skin but they show the same info, what I'm looking to do is something like

Menu (subject name)
item 1
item 2

Menu 1 (subject name)
item 1
item 2

Menu 2 (subject name)
item 1
item 2

then having the choice to place the items onto which ever menu needed. Any suggestions?

It's also available as a skinobject to be placed in skin so you don't have to worry about adding as module.

You can hard code - I do that sometimes on sites that won't be changed, I understand what you want to achieve, so give it a try and see the results. If the menu stays fixed, then all you need is an admin menu that is visible when you log in so you can see the admin/ host functions.

I now have 3 menus on my skin, but all showing the same info, Home, Admin, and host when logged in as host how do i go about adding the menus their own identity, i've done the menu, menu:1, menu:2 bit in the xml, i know i'm missing out on something but can't put my finger on it

can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Pat

Solpart Menu only picks up the tab list from DB. As said earlier you can indeed show current page and children by forcedownlevel="true" or perhaps rootonly so you make rootonly="true".

I have not tried third party options quoted but for me the easiest method of showing extra menu set manually is use of Links module on a page set to vertical or horizontal.
