I agree with Timo here

I only participate for the recognition and not the prizes. I think I have most of the books private or at work and although an xbox or netbook would be nice I can live without them and as for the dev tools I have my dev environment setup allready

And also the license for the skin is better arranged this time, the other contest winner had a lot of usage restrictions, no modifications ( well you could do modifications but then you would have to pay the creator you were only allowed to use the original skin as entered without design modifications.

This time anyone may use or abuse the skin,

As for my entry  in the Modern Business, its table less, based on a modified css grid framework, comes with psd for the most important item, uses the unordered list option of dnn:nav, a bit of jQuery for easier acess to host and amin menu , ie6 and ie7 stylesheets that show the use of the new styles skinobject and best of all ulta fast loading. And as all of my other skins totally non dnn looking ;)

Both the skin part as well as the css grid part is commented ad easy to understand and learn and modify for other colors or images.

DotNetNuke has done a lot for me business wise  so why not do something back and in the meantime get my name out there for interested parties :)

Armand and Timo

I'm not going to defend my comments, other than to say that it was meant to provoke a dialogue about the contest and the merits of it. It's just a pitty that only regular posters (you guys) have responded...

Regarding the judging criteria - I'm glad that Timo has cleared up how things are to run in that department. Let's hope that the entries will speak for themselves. Armand, I've seen your work and use the 960.gs grid in all my work too - the stuff you have done to extend it for DNN is awesome. Already my vote would be for you...

Regarding prizes - My only real point here was that the lack of response might be as a result of that mindset... (note the reference to "devil's advocate"). And I still believe that world-wide recoginition is a bit abstract in my own way... Perhaps because I've heard it so many times before from our international clients, so I'm a bit cynical when it comes to fame and referrals. Sorry.

DotNetNuke has done heaps for my business as well. I've always been a big advocate for the framework. I would just like to see more community members step it up a bit - like Armand has... Truly extending it. Designing websites and then applying the framework, rather than designing for the framework. Just being a little more bold with what can be done.

My hope is that the competition would actually do this.

Last suggestion - Is there any room for collaborative efforts. For e.g. Could Armand and I team up if we wanted to..? Could a designer hook up with a developer halfway around the world and enter..?

Jon,

I think you are right, we could make "world-wide recoginition" a bit less abstract, I'll discuss this in the Team.

And I don't see any reason why you could not team up, actually it would be great to see some Developers / designer colborative work in this contest.

Thanks for your feedback.

Last question... As I'm kinda leaning towards submitting something... Would it be at all possible to extend the deadline to the end of the month..? Like January 31st? - Its a Sunday, but it would make a world of difference. It would give those of us who haven't yet started a chance to do so, and those who have started a chance to tweak and perfect what they already have... I have a day job too, so this would be an afterhours project.

Why penalize those whoi started a month ago, when the contest was announced, and who are working toward a defined deadline?  Or, if you're going to change the deadline, why not make it March 1, so those who haven't yet heard of DNN might have a chance as well?

There's a reason the word "Deadline" begins with the word "Dead."
