I am new to DNN but well-experienced with .NET.  So, I admit that there is still much for me to learn about DNN's architecture.

My question is:
What is the best way to approach styling DNN and its modules?

Should I modify the CSS files that are part of the modules, or is it better to override the styles, as needed, in the skin CSS file and leave the shipping files alone?

You should change the skins css files.

But if you want to use the default skin (minimal extropy) first copy it and edit that, because the default skin gets overwritten if you update DNN.

(you would loose your changes)

Another option would be to add additional CSS to the Site Settings which will update the portal CSS. This way you can swap skins and keep the style changes you've made to the modules as well.

We've got a short video on it here if it's of use: http://www.youtube.com/psdtodnn#p/u/0...

Regards,

Rick.

Thanks Timo.

I have created my first skin for my Porsche Club portal (BTW: the Porsche Club of America uses DNN).  Now I have to learn to skin the admin functions.

I have been overriding the module css as needed in the following fashion:

.ContentPane

.Head {color: #cdb26d ! important;}

Thanks Rick.

I watched the video, and I can definitely see the benefit of that approach.
