Good Afternoon,

I'm new to skinning and have several HTML/CSS files that need to be converted to skins.  My DNN site is running v5.4 and I'm seeking free resources to get me stated creating skin packages, using tokens properly vs. creating .ascx skins etc.  My development environment includes VS 2008 as well as Expression Web 3.

Questions:
1.  Which is easier - creating skins using HTML/CSS or using .ascx files?  Can you provide free How To guides on each method?
2.  Skin Package(s):  Are these just .zip files in DNN 5.x or has this methodology changed?  Besides the HTML/CSS or .ascx files, does DNN 5 require use of xml files or is that now deprecated?

Thanks,
Sid

Sid,

I highly recommend the videos at www.DNNCreative.com - there are many videos on Skinning.  Check it out.  Well worth it.

Paul.

Hi,

my adivse would be to make a copy of the minimal extropy skin and start from there.

All you need to do is adding für HTML and adding the skin objects you want to use.

Cheers,

Jo

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I let my DNNCreative subscription lapse and now see it costs $80.  Can you suggest any free resources that document the process used to create skins using the .ascx method?

Thanks,
Sid

Hi Jo,

Thanks for the advise.  Do you suggest the .ASCX approach over the HTML approach?  I'm very comfortable in VS2008 but need to know any add-ins etc. that are required to register the DNN resource tag.

Thanks,
Sid
