Timo,

Thanks for this  I remember this from Shaun Walker's original DNN book.  I'll keep a copy of this post for reference.

When you say "my documentation" I assume this is on your site?  If so, I'll be jacking up your hit numbers in the near future. :)

I'm a straight up SQL, C# and VB guy.  I bit off more than I could chew on this skinning issue though.  Your reply will help keep the client happy.  I realized from one of his replies last night and from your post on browser compatibility that the issue at hand is twofold: 1) Catalyst 2.0 skin is not XHTML compliant.  Their Doc Type clearly shows it is HTML 4.0 or earlier, compliant; 2)  He's editing the skin with Easy Mod so we both probably have some similar style names.  It was mentioned he has a css that was changed.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks for all your help.  This did work, btw.  I'm swimming in details, being a bit new to skinning and ONLY doing C# and VB.

My Jedi Mind Tricks must be failing me though.  Privacy and Terms Skin Objects seem to "refuse to comply" :)

Another question though is how to create a skin object.  Copying an existing one for a template is obvious.  What else do I need to do?  The reason I need Terms and Privacy for my own are that there are pages which don't use the footer I'm setting up.  Und So, if I have White Text for those too ... I blow those pages.

I think making a db entry in DNN_ModuleControls does it, per a buddy of mine.  However, what else might there be if anything?

Thanks for your help.

Mike

the easiest thing to do is to install the skin object (create a package first), take a look at this example: http://dnnskinextensions.codeplex.com/releases/view/42864

Timo,

Thanks and this is all self-explanatory.

I take it on faith that while other skin objects that come stock with DNN do not have entries in DestkopModules, that user skin objects must?  Why is this?  It makes more sense to me to have skin objects where all the others are, this way one is not looking for one type of critter in 2 different places.  These would then be easier to maintain, right?

Thanks again.  It was simply the DNN file that that was missing, along with where to stuff the ascx and code behind files.

Timo,

Running into some trouble here.  When I installed, it was successful.  A few errors but these were quickly resolved to get the successful install.  However, when using the skin object, it didn't show up for one thing in the skin and the DNN menu styles blew.  Not showing up is easy enough to resolve but why this reduced the menu to plain text in the horizontal strip where it would normally reside was a bit of a mystery.
