I don't use the H1 tag in all the modules on the page - only the "main idea" one  - that's why I make the HI appear the same as a non-H1 module title - that way it doesn't look any different, but the tag is there for themain idea. I also use the skin for the HI tag for the page title, as you suggest.  Unfortunately, specifying the padding and margin in the H1 css did not help with the spacing issue.

I'm afraid I didn't look into the div and module menu issue further, once I got the solution from the other reply, removing the nbsp.
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate the assist.

but still using the setup like this can cause issues because you are using a block level element ( h1 ) into an inline element ( span ) and this is invalid html

<span id="dnn_ctr698_dnnTITLE_lblTitle" class="plain_title"><H1>A Charleston Montessori Preschool</H1></span>

You cannot put the < h1 > tag into the header outside of the < title > tag.  What I meant was to actually place the page name into a content area by using something like " < td class = "PageNameArea" >< h1 class="PageName" >< % = PortalSettings . ActiveTab . TabName % >< /h1 >< /td > " without all the excess spaces (not sure if the upgraded forum allows for posting code without the extra spaces or not).

And it is true that you need the < h1 > tag to wrap the span, not be in it.  I use this code in mine:  < h2 >  < dnn : TITLE runat="server" id="dnnTITLE"  CssClass="TitleHead" / > < / h2 >  (again without all the extra spaces).  Then you get W3C valid code.

I strongly suggest you run this skin through the W3C validator to check for any other potential errors you might have.  I use Visual Web Developer Express when creating a skin and container, it has automatic inline alerts to W3C errors, and allows you to publish locally as a development server instead of live on the web (page loads are quicker during the design process that way, too).
