In the portal skin, I have a top pane which sits in the same level as the banner.  In this pane, I have placed a links module.  When I click on the Login link, the page displays the login control, but the top pane links are no longer displayed.  Is there a method of ensuring the top pane is displayed?

Dear jamesc878

Make a default skin and containers.
Put in these default skin the link module by design.
Set for your portal these skin and containers als standard.
Perhaps this will help.

DNN shows dynamically loaded controls by themselves in a single content pane. This is what happens with the Login page unless you set another one in Portal Settings. In that page add a Login Module and the other modules you want.

On a similar note. In my site I have all my menuing set up using HouseMenu (nice and lightweight, perfect for my needs). As I have been unable to get the skinobject version working I have the menus (2, one cert and one horiz) sitting in specific content panes. It all works ok until I perform any admin function (settings, any admin/host item). Them contentpanes docn't display any content and are not even there. I am using the exact same skin for admin as I am for non-admin. It seems dnn strips out all but 'Contentpane'. Is this correct and if so can I change this functionality?

Gavin.

What Nestor has explained is how you work around your problems Gavin.

Click Admin/Settings/ Advanced Settings - you'll see some options - one is a login page.  I set my home page - but you can set any page you want to be the LoginPage and it keeps the integrity of the look and feel.

What I do - on http://www.xd.com.au is just that - I added the account login module to the front page, set the visiblity to Unauthenticated users (not logged in) and when you log in the box disappears.

One word of warning - set the log in module on the page you're going to be using FIRST or you'll be going to a page with no login.. that's sort of like a pub with no beer over here!

This is simply the longer version of the information that Nestor correctly provided.
