There were not too many changes afaik. The main thing is that the "dnnFormRequired" class (which produced this wonderful red border on the left side of input controls) went from the control itself to the label and produces a boring red star * now in DNN 7...

Best wishes
Michael

I am a new user evaluating DNN and have installed a trial version of DNN7 enterprise, what resources are best for learning how to skin a site?  I have been attempting to follow the v5 skinning guide and it is not lining up well with what I am seeing.   Also, the getting started video linked to in the outdated sticky post at the top of this very forum does not seem to exist anymore.

On a side note has anyone had much success with using LESS and html5 to deliver responsive layouts with DNN 7?  In the documents I have seen it seems to hint that messing around with doctype and the default.css is not encouraged.

Thanks,
Eric Wilson

Check out Joe Brinkman's skinning tutorial.

http://www.theaccidentalgeek.com/post...(Part-1).aspx

I have used DotLess to generate CSS files that I then just used as part of the site. It just worked. In that case it had nothing to do with responsive layout.

Changing the doctype is fine - although for the site to get close to validating will need any modules you use to match your aspirations.

default.css you should stay away from. When you upgrade your install all your changes get overwritten. You should try and do it all in your own skin's CSS.

Best wishes,

The skinning video can be found here, and is a bit newer than Joe Brinkman's blog.

Other basic web seminars are available here - search for "DotNetNuke Explained"

Hope that helps,

Hi Eric,

I have used LESS quite a bit on DNN skins. I've used Bootstrap and some other scaffolding frameworks to achive responsive layouts.  Default css has always been an issue. I just comment out stuff that conflicts with skins (usually default styles for HTML elements). Upgrading DNN always meant reapplying the comments because default.css would be overridden by the upgrade package.
