Hi, I downloaded a file that contains a skin and container file.  uploaded it using the upload skin link at the bottom of the page in admin/skins.  That worked great.

Now if I unzip and modify some files then rezip when I upload the skin the same way I get the message no skin or container when I select the skin from the menu.   It has to be how im re-zipping everything.  I want the skin and the container in the same zip file.

MySkin
    Container
    Skin

So when I go to re-zip do I select both folders in the MySkin folder zip those and upload that which is the name of my skin. Or do I zip each folder then both the zip files.  neither seems to work for me.

Also when I go to skins none of the sample images show until I select another skin and apply then I can see the previews of the skins.

thanks in advance for your help
-Keith

you need to put skins and containers into separate zips and upload separately using upload in "Skins" menu item. You need to add images (width 450 for preview and 150 for thumbnail, named same as your skin (thumbnail prefixed with "thumbnail_", see dnn-blue for example.

Sorry Sebastian - I don't like correcting people but you can make the preview size any size you like and the thumbnails are auto generated once you first preview the skin.

I've got a video that is a basic introduction to skinning that covers these topics, and, like Sebastian mentioned - Zipping them up for upload.

Registered users can download this video for free HERE. It will give you a good start.

Ahh ok,  I guess this from the CreatingSkin document isnt supported anymore.

In many cases you will want to package a complementary set of skin files and
container files in one distribution file. In order to do this you need to package your
container files in a compressed *.zip file named “containers.zip”. Similarly, you must
package your skin files in a compressed *.zip file name “skins.zip”. Then you need to
package these 2 files into a single *.zip file which is named after your skin. This will
allow people to install the full skin package ( skins and containers ) by uploading a
single file through the Skin Uploader.

But I still dont understand why I can download skins and containers from other sources that contain both the skins and containers in one zip file.  Thats why I thought it was the way I was zipping the files....

The Creating Skins file I got from this website was updated June 20, 2006, it this the latest update for skinning?

About the previews not showing up,  the same thing happens with the DNN-Blue, gray and so on with the built in skins,  not only new ones that I install myself

Thanks
-Keith
